Why Are Financial Goals Important
Financial Goals: Is the financial year not ending with the numbers you hoped? Try this…
Tax returns feel like a punishment for running your own business. While the 2022–23 accounts aren’t due for another 9ish months, by this point you know your fate. Your invoices and receipts may not be in your accountant’s inbox yet, but you already know whether you’ve hit your financial goal or not. That might look like a 6-figure number, or it might be hitting the same numbers you earned when you were employed.
Either way, struggling to make your business provide financially for you so you can fulfil your hopes and dreams is disappointing. It feels like getting a bad grade at school even though you revised really hard. I got plenty of those. But instead of sulking in your room and slamming the door in your parent’s face, use that feeling to fuel your drive to get better and hit your financial goals next year.
But where do you even begin? Let me show you how in my free “5 THINGS YOU’VE LIKELY NEVER CONSIDERED TO IMPROVE YOUR SALES EBOOK“. Download below.
Track to find the gap
Your end-of-year accounts don’t tell half the story of how your business is doing. We need to get into the nitty-gritty to be able to find out what’s holding you back. So make a note of numbers like the amount of inquiries you get, how many turn up to discovery calls and how many end up as paying clients.
I help people to improve their sales conversations, teaching you how to make successful sales calls. You’ll be surprised how many business owners have no idea how to make great sales calls let alone know their conversion rates. If you don’t know where you stand, how are you supposed to get better? To help, take a sales skills assessment that will help you know where you are.
Don’t go into survival mode
When we feel defeated, we see the world with the opposite of rose-tinted glasses. Everything is terrible. And me asking you to figure out your conversion rate might have just added to your sorrows. But don’t let yourself spiral down.
If you want to win more clients and grow your business, you need a good mindset. That means panicking doesn’t help. This usually leads to people slashing their prices, asking prospects to work with them before they’re ready and seemingly having no confidence in what they’re offering. None of this helps. Believe in what you do and believe in presenting it to your prospects in the right way. That’s how you get more yeses.
volved in your offer. There’s a reason why slashing your prices hasn’t bumped up your sales figures in the past—it doesn’t make what you do more valuable, just cheaper to acquire. That’s a crucial difference.
People put their time, effort, and money into results, and achieving financial goals is part of that investment. The result isn’t just about being £X out of pocket; it’s the skill you help them learn or the task you take off their to-do list and the impact that then has on their lives. The impact, whether it’s time-saving or confidence-building, ultimately aligns with their financial goals, leading them to be better off financially. So, they’re investing £X to gain £X while working with you, which brings them closer to their financial goals.
Inspire Change Towards Financial Goals
The hardest thing about the decision to work with you isn’t just the money they have to part with; it’s the commitment to change and to align with new financial goals. Committing to the point where they’re going to put their money where their mouth is takes courage. They’re so used to doing things a certain way, even if that way doesn’t work, so why disrupt that?
It’s easier if things stay the same, even if that means continuing to struggle alone. That’s why you need to present your offer in a way that supports their financial goals and makes saying “yes” a complete no-brainer. If you’re able to say, “By paying me £X, I’ll save you X hours or get you X enquiries (or something along those lines), and that will put £X in your pocket that you didn’t already have,” it makes too much sense not to align with you and their financial goals.
But how do you come up with those numbers? Numbers that your prospects will believe…
Book a Call to Define Financial Goals
I can figure that out with you. It’s part of the Ian Genius selling-without-selling methodology. You just need to know the steps to guide prospects through and a few numbers that reflect the impact you tend to have on clients. The rest of the numbers come from the prospects and align with their financial goals. Essentially, they define the outcomes of working with you so they feel totally in control and can trust the numbers, as well as how they relate to their financial goals.
I don’t expect you to fully get what I mean from one blog post. It’s a new way of winning clients that contradicts what we’ve been told. So make your own decision about whether it could work for you and your financial goals.
